There are bios on our 4 other seniors/graduates we honored the past 2 days on this board for Repko, Addingdon, Trull and Milius.

Today we honor Mackenzie "Mac" Lawter, Catcher, "The General":

Bachelors Degree, double major in Multimedia Journalism and Political Science. Pursuing Masters in Reputation Management. ACC Academic Honor Roll. VaSID First Team All-State. VA Sports Info Directors All-State First Team.

Mac calls all the pitches to Keely, Emma and the pitching staff. She is unique in that she is one of only a few catchers nationwide who makes the pitch calls, instead of calls coming from coaches in the dugout. This requires a lot of extra time and work, between Mac and the pitching staff studying each team, each player prior to every game. She is the respected leader of the team. She is the heart and soul, and has been called "the glue."

Coach Pete talked to Mac when he was hired. Two traits he liked the most about Mac were, 1. She didn't talk much, and 2. She laughed at all his jokes. She still laughs at his jokes today. Coach Pete said that Mac is as good as it comes behind the plate.

Mac always has a smile on her face and a pleasure to be around. Prior to joining VT, Mac first met Keely at 14 years old. They played travel team together at Williamsburg Starz Gold, then continued at VT another 5 years.

Quote from Keely: "Mac can easily read what I want to throw and when I want to throw it. One of the girls commented, 'I hate it when you and Mac are together because I always think I know what's coming and y'all do the opposite.'"

Father played baseball at Longwood Univ. Started playing ball when she was 5, and started catching when she was 9. In addition to catcher, Mac used to play 1B and OF. Best All-Around Female Athlete in HS. Played volleyball in HS. From Halifax County HS in South Boston, VA, home of the Comets.
